A few things I’m loving …

March 14, 2012

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I always seem to have my own March Madness that has nothing to do with basketball.

I thought I’d share just a few things I’ve been loving lately.

Painted ceilings with a pop of color ….

And him …
My baby turned 8 today … how is that possible?  It’s kind of a week long birthday celebration around here … but he’s so worth it.

Happy Birthday Kyle!

(Thrilled to be playing outside in full Derek Rose regalia on this unseasonably warm day!)

Fun finds at 610 Home

February 29, 2012

Had a chance to spend the day in Geneva with a friend and stopped in one of my favorite stores, 610 Home.
There is so much eye candy … it kind of feels like you are on a treasure hunt. I snapped a few pics of some of my favorite items but I barely scratched the surface.  (We were too busy chatting!)

If I had a beach house, I might hang this over the dining table …

What a way to make a statement in a room … I love this table!

A great way to add some architectural interest to a room that is lacking …

So pretty for a bathroom ….

I love these funky stools pushed under a console for extra seating.

Vintage hotel serving domes … how pretty sitting on a dining room buffet?

Love the luxe look of this bench full of pillows … if I had the right size closet … I’d put this whole setup in it.

Oh, but what about this cute little thing? To me it screams Hollywood-starlet-sitting-at-her-glamourous vanity-spritzing-Chanel.

I loved these vintage hand-drawn botanical prints … so pretty in a group.

Each one is different with lovely details.

If you are in the Geneva area, be sure to check out 610 Home. It is a true gem!

First Pinterest, Now this …

February 21, 2012

Great. Just great. What are these people doing to us? By people, I mean, the creators of websites like Pinterest and now, Olioboard. How is a mom supposed cook meals for her family, do laundry, help with homework or get a good night’s sleep with all of this addictive eye-candy just waiting for us 24/7 out in cyberspace? Seriously.

When Nate Berkus did a whole segment on Olioboard on his show today, my heart both fluttered with excitement and sank at the same time. I knew I would be sneaking away to check it the first chance I got.

An hour later … I guess you could say I was hooked.

At Olioboard.com you can create moodboards using real products from great brands and stores like Burke Decor, CB2, Chiasso,  Crate&Barrel, Dwell,  Home Decorators Collection,  inhabit.  Layla Grayce, Lumens Light & Living, Ralph Lauren, Target, The Land of Nod, Urban Outfitters, Velocity Art And Design, West Elm, Zinc Door and much more. It’s ridiculously fun.

I have always done this manually using Photoshop for my clients and myself … this makes things sooo much easier! And you can add in things you come across from other stores across the web.

Moodboards or inspiration boards are so useful when wanting to give a room or space a new look. It really helps to see how everything will look together.

On the homepage are a variety of moodboards that other members have created. It’s kind of fun to look through those before diving into your own.

You can even chose from a variety of empty rooms to decorate. I’m kind of loving some of these …

I started to create a moodboard of my own to share here …. but I was having so much fun and it was taking so long, I knew I would never get this post written if I kept going.
Nate Berkus couldn’t have said it better on his show today … “WHY DIDN’T I COME UP WITH THIS?”
Take a look. Have fun. Be careful. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Happy Halloween

October 31, 2011

Hope everyone has a great Halloween and that your kids get lots of your favorite candy in their bucket of loot. (That you can steal  enjoy after they’ve gone to bed, perhaps?)
We’ve got a Bears football player and a Pirate at our house.
What’s your recipe for a great Halloween?

If I Had a Beach House …

July 18, 2011

House Beautiful

Well, last week started with a 2 day power outage but ended with 2 wonderful trips to the lake houses of 2 equally wonderful friends.  The relaxed atmosphere, beautiful views and fresh air has me daydreaming about what I would want my beach house to look like.  Maybe a little bit of this …

Urban Grace

…mixed with a whole lot of this.

… and I’m moving in for the summer.  With the heat this week, a lake house is sounding better than ever. What would your dream beach cottage look like?
