Friday Foursome

February 10, 2017

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a Friday Foursome! But Yay! We made it through January!

Welcome to this week’s Friday Foursome, where I share a few of the things that made me swoon over the past week.

I know the trend these days is for light and bright interiors, but there is something to be said for the coziness and moodiness of this Napa Valley Cabin. I could move right in!

I love this idea from the Traditional Home Napa Valley Designer Showhouse! (Hmmm – do you sense a Wine-theme here?) Instead of one large chandelier, why not cluster three pretty pendants of different sizes and shapes.? Here they are featuring the Girard Lanterns from Circa Lighting.

I’m a sucker for cute little pots and vases.  I love these new ones from Magnolia – in cement and natural wood. A great way to add an earthy element to your bookshelves or coffee table!

These braided poufs are a fun and inexpensive find from an unexpected source!

Fresh picks for a New Year

January 12, 2017

Happy New Year readers! Wow – can’t believe we are already 1/3 of the way into January! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday break – I know I did.  A little downtime is so good for the soul, isn’t it?  And my boys must be approaching the teen years because they were sleeping in like they never have before!  I remember many a cold winter Sunday morning at 5:30 am trying to entertain a toddler when it was still pitch black outside. (Hang in there moms of little early risers! Your time will come!)

Anyway, one of the (few) things I love about January are all the new product launches by my favorite stores and companies.  Everyone seems to want to turn over a new leaf in the New Year. I thought I’d share a few new things that have caught my eye from some of my favorite sources.

Mix’n’Match marble shelves from World Market.
How pretty are these? And so on-trend with the mix of marble and brass. Would be pretty in a powder room …

Also from World Market, a super-chic table lamp! Hello … acrylic and brass … always a great combo!

I’m always on the hunt for interesting planters and vases. Especially this time of year, it’s nice to have a little greenery around. These planters from Wisteria are so unique. Alone on a console or pair the two sizes for a pretty centerpiece.

Also from Wisteria, I love the clean lines and  foot detail on this rustic console table.

Natural fiber rugs are always a great addition to any home. I love that this new one from Serena & Lily has a little pizzaz to it with its gingham pattern. Would be fun in front of a kitchen sink.

New from Terrain, these iron votives are so pretty. The punched metal gives them an industrial flair.

I usually shop Currey & Company for lighting, but I sometimes forget they have great furniture pieces too.  I love this tiered side table with its cast aluminum top.

Isn’t this the best Bin Pull from Rejuvenation?

I’m always excited to see the new collections from Loloi rugs. This rug from their Delphi Collection is so pretty. It’s muted colors would work in a variety of spaces.

Have you all started watching the new season of Fixer Upper?  These wood grain chargers from Magnolia Market are so cute. A fun addition to the dining table.

I didn’t realize until I put all the pieces together in a collage how well they  work together. Can you tell I am drawn to neutral pieces, metal and natural wood?  I think after the holidays everyone is craving a little more simplicity – but things like these can still help warm up your space once all of the decorations are put away.

What changes will you make to your home this month?

A Suite Transformation

November 16, 2016

You guys … I am so excited to show you the transformation of this Master Bedroom Suite. My clients moved into their beautiful home over two years ago, but as is typical with most families, other areas of the house were prioritized over the Master Bedroom and Bathroom. It was time to show this space a little love! If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my sneak peak of the Bedroom last week. Now it’s time for the full reveal of both spaces. I had the pleasure of once again collaborating with Stephanie of Plain & Posh on the Bathroom design.  I think you’ll love the results.

Here is where we started in the bedroom – I don’t even have too many pictures as we were basically working with a blank slate.  My clients were ready for new furniture, bedding, rug, paint … the works.

And here we are today …

Since the bedroom before was mostly neutral and shades of brown, I wanted to bring some color in – pale green walls (Sherwin Williams  – Sea Salt) and deep Indigo blue are one of my favorite combinations.  Since the Indigo is a strong color, I used it around the room but kept much of the other elements light and neutral. Warm wood tones mixed with brass and marble accents also warmed things up and provided a modern rustic vibe that feels elegant but also cozy.

740-s-oak-st-27-1280x854

740-s-oak-st-29-1280x787

One goal was to create a cozy seating area in front of these gorgeous windows …  one that would actually get used!  Instead of the loveseat that was there previously, I suggested two comfy chairs and an ottoman they could put their feet up on.  Tables (for coffee cups … or wine glasses!) were a must and a killer chandelier fills out the space.

740-s-oak-st-34-1280x1116

740-s-oak-st-50-1280x1063

We kept window treatments to a minimum since a) there are so many windows b) my clients really like having all of the windows open during the day since their backyard is so pretty and private and c) we felt like there was enough softness in that area with the chair, ottoman and pillow fabrics.  But – for evening privacy and to help darken the room in the early morning, we added pretty textured roller shades from Hunter Douglas that work from a remote. One push of a button and they all come down at once! How cool is that?

740-s-oak-st-47-1280x1279

Ok – so magazine spreads rarely show you a TV in the bedroom – but who are we kidding? How great is it to snuggle up in bed and watch TV?  The TV wall can still be pretty!

740-s-oak-st-28-1280x854

Just put a gorgeous textured console with ring pulls under it and flank it with brass swing-arm lamps!

740-s-oak-st-57-862x1280

740-s-oak-st-54-1280x1041

I love how this piece ties in with the nightstands without being too matchy-matchy.

740-s-oak-st-33-943x1280

We tried a few different things over the nightstands … but ultimately decided we needed to go-big-or-go-home. I am obsessed with these mirrors!

Hold -up! I am going to keep you waiting a little longer. 😉 You want to see the “Befores” don’t you?

Inherited from the previous owners it was a classic 90’s bathroom. But certainly a lot of space to work with!  Here it is today …

740-s-oak-st-9-1230x1280

740-s-oak-st-17-1170x1280

The goal here was to create a bathroom that was light, bright and timeless. I always love collaborating on projects with Stephanie of Plain & Posh. She is so creative, has a great eye and her cabinetry designs are both beautiful and functional.

740-s-oak-st-18-1257x1280

740-s-oak-st-6-1280x854

And how can you not love this beauty …

740-s-oak-st-1-1280x852

The door to the bathroom sits on an angle, so we played that up by laying the tile on angle as well – the diamond pattern is one of my favorite elements.

740-s-oak-st-23-1280x854

For artwork, the acrylic framed close-up photographs of Agate stones bring in a natural, organic element and the colors tie in with the palette we used in the bedroom.

For the shower floor, we chose a basketweave pattern and paired it with a white subway tile running vertically up the wall.

740-s-oak-st-22-854x1280

And finally – those tall ceilings call for a dramatic light fixture. I fell in love with this Bubble light and begged my clients to trust me!  SO glad they did – it’s perfect for this bathroom, don’t you think?

740-s-oak-st-20-1280x854

740-s-oak-st-24-854x1280

Of course – remodeling always seems to open a can of worms, doesn’t it?  Next up on my client’s Wish-list – changing out all of the brass hinges and knobs throughout the house. There are a LOT! Somehow they are lot easier to overlook when you’ve got a gorgeous space like this to live in though, right?

Once again – I can’t thank my clients enough for bringing me into their most personal space to create something beautiful. I hope they love it as much as I do!  And a big thank you to the lovely Marina of Picture Perfect House for capturing this space in pictures.

one

Maybe it’s because my parents have been sending me pictures from Spain all week,  it’s got me daydreaming – but this house outside of Barcelona would be muy perfecto in any country!

Lovers of the Ballard Designs catalog – you will NOT want to miss this article on Ballard Founder, Helen Ballard Weeks and it’s tour of the to-die-for Atlanta home she recently sold.

Maybe it’s my excitement about getting on the beach in a couple weeks, but lately I have been drawn to water and beach inspired art like this gorgeous piece featured in a stunning San Clemente home.  There is something so soothing about it. Interestingly, you can find some pretty cool but smaller versions at Urban Outfitters.

Lavender-Pink-White-Color-Trend-Emily-Henderson-3

I love the color lavender – but it’s so rarely used in interior design. Like pink it has the connotation of being too girly. This article has some great examples of more sophisticated uses of the color in design. (Plus I just love the two cats in this picture.)

Had a fabulous time at the Grand Opening Party for the new Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams Store in Oakbrook last night with my favorite girls! More details next week, but we may have found our new summer cocktail!
