Friday Foursome

April 22, 2016

Welcome to this week’s Friday Foursome, where I share a few of the things that made me swoon over the past week.

one

e236b4ed5207dfe3302357ed7fcdd680

Love this new line of bedding from School House Electric – fun colors and prints for spring as well as great neutrals and stripes (my fave!)

two

classic gray

This week I had a lot of my main floor, stairwell and upstairs hallway painted Benjamin Moore’s Classic Gray OC-23 and I LOVE it!  It is a barely there color that feels bright and light and fresh without being stark white. It is a great backdrop for adding in color with furniture, artwork and accessories. Above are some examples of Classic Gray used in other homes. (Still cleaning up my own so not quite ready for pictures!)

three

rejuvenation-faucet (480x640)

How cool is this faucet from Rejuvenation? Part of my client’s powder room makeover …

I love love love the whole vibe and everything in this One Kings Lane sale – including the town that inspired it!

A few winter tweaks …

February 27, 2013

I don’t know about you, but after so many hours indoors at home, I really get the itch to change things up a bit around my house. Some changes are small … some a little more involved (ask my husband and father-in-law). But I thought I’d share a few here …

#1 Simplifying the top of our entertainment center

Before I had a few more things up top … but I decided to go for just 3 bigger objects this time. These were all things I already had in my house but now they kind of have a new life in this very focal point of our family room.

I always think it’s a great idea to shop your own house and move your accessories around. Store some things away for awhile and then bring them back out when the mood hits.

#2 I painted my rooster!

I’ve always liked my quirky rooster but he used to be red.  He kind of blended into the cabinets … so I took out some of my leftover Annie Sloan Chalk paint (I wrote about here) and gave him a makeover. I’m always looking for ways to brighten up my dark cabinets, so this gives a nice pop of creamy white up above the cook top.

#3 New Chandelier for my dining room (!!!!)

This is what my dear husband and father-in-law spent a couple of hours hanging for me on a recent Sunday afternoon. It makes me very happy!

You might remember the old when that came with the house …

It just felt heavy … our dining room is not all that large … so I knew we needed something a little more delicate, light … and sparkly …

#4 More sparkle … to the fireplace.

Decorating a mantel can be tricky … because I have bookshelves in this room that already hold a lot of different decorative objects, I wanted to keep this mantel a little more uniform. A collection of mercury glass votive holders in various sizes, shapes and textures did the trick. Plus, I like the juxtaposition of the more rustic fireplace with the glamour of mercury glass.

#5 A few purchases from One Kings Lane

In wintertime, when I can’t physically get out to wander around outdoor antiques markets, I have to get my fix browsing the Tastemaker Tag Sales and Vintage shops of One Kings Lane.

So many one-of-kind treasures … it’s a great way to score some unique pieces for your home. My recent purchases …

This gray and white French ticking body pillow …

… this white ceramic pitcher and vintage French bottling tray:

I think the tray will be pretty come spring & summer to fill with vintage glass bottles and fresh cut stems from my yard.

So that’s it for me … how are you beating the doldrums of winter?

More Friday Favorites …

January 13, 2012

This Friday I thought I’d share a few favorite things I’ve come across this week, including a little emptying out my iPhone photos.

I spotted these colorful handmade quilts at West Elm … each one is completely unique.

I’d lay one across the foot of a bed with white crisp bedding for a pop of color.

I think they would be great for a child’s bedroom or a guest room.
I also spotted this swoon worthy chandelier …
… at Pottery Barn! I love this shape and style … the chunky texture of the wooden beads. I’ve seen similar ones that cost a lot more.
And not for the faint of heart …
There’s something about this wallpaper that makes me smile. I’d love it in a powder room or maybe my walk-in closet! It’s from Thibaut’s new Jubilee Collection.
And speaking of wallpaper, One King’s Lane is running an interesting sale that began yesterday featuring John Derian (I am still waiting for him to do another collection for Target!). It is a collection of framed prints reproduced from a portfolio of 18th-century wallpaper fragments he purchased from a vendor at a Paris flea market.
Isn’t this one pretty?
And I like his suggestion …
Even if you don’t purchase one from this sale … do you have a favorite wallpaper you would consider framing?  Hmmm, perhaps I could frame that leopard wallpaper!
Have a wonderful weekend!

My little piece of Madeline …

November 11, 2011

I have long been a fan of Madeline Weinrib.  A New York based painter and textile designer, she has created a collection of carpets, pillows, fabric and vintage pieces that have become a staple in the design world, with designs clearly inspired by her travels around the globe.

She is the great granddaughter of the founder of ABC Carpet & Home and opened her own Atelier on the 6th floor of ABC, offering one of kind vintage pieces, and using her textiles in unexpected ways.  Her style is relaxed and sophisticated with worldly elegance, but to purchase anything Madeline Weinrib will set you back quite a few clams.

That’s why I was thrilled to see such a wide assortment of her textiles and pillows on One Kings Lane back in September … and the prices were IN. CRED. IB. LE. I was able to snag 5 yards of this beautiful fabric from her Organic Blockprint line.

I waited in anticipation for it to come in the mail (things from One Kings Lane always take awhile). Fast-forward 6 weeks and add in one talented woman named Julie … and these beauties were delivered today …

and hung in my living room!

Not only do they make me swoon … but there is still enough fabric leftover to make something else!
Pillows?

If I Had a Million Dollars …

July 6, 2011

Have you watched Million Dollar Decorators on Bravo?  I must admit, I’m hooked.

It’s kind of a modern-day … Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Yes, all of the designers and the homes they design are completely over the top … but it’s fun to go inside these extravagant places and see what people do when money is no object.

In tonight’s episode, Martin Lawrence Bullard takes the Founders of One Kings Lane shopping at his favorite hidden gems in London to purchase a collection of items that will go on sale on One Kings Lane tomorrow! (July 6).

I’m anxious to see what made the cut. In the episode, Martin kept coming up with pieces deemed too expensive to sell on One Kings Lane.

But I do love his style.  Did you ever see Ellen Pompeo’s Hollywood Hills home featured in Elle Decor a last year?

Martin Lawrence Bullard was her designer.

(Swoon.)

If you’re looking for a little guilty pleasure, be sure to check out Million Dollar Decorators on Bravo (Tuesdays at 9pm Central). And don’t miss the One Kings Lane sale that begins at 10 am Central time on Wednesday July 6.

Plus the talented chefs at Monogram served up the most delicious snacks using their amazing Five-in-One Wall Oven. Do you know the story of how Crate & Barrel began? Do you know the story of how Crate & Barrel began? Newlyweds Gordon and Carol Segal discovered simple white European dinnerware on their honeymoon and decided their hometown friends needed it too. They opened the first Crate & Barrel in Chicago in 1962. So honored to be invited to their 60th Anniversary celebration last night. And let me just say, Crate & Barrel sure knows how to set a table … for 60! Every detail of this evening was beautifully styled in that special C&B way that has made them a favorite place to shop for so many for so long. It was wonderful to hear Gordon speak and the last picture is the lovely cozy view I had for dinner. Quintessential Crate & Barrel. @crateandbarrel #60thanniversarycelebration
