Friday Foursome – Indigo Edition

May 20, 2016

Welcome to this week’s Friday Foursome, where I share a few of the things that made me swoon over the past week.  This week everything I’m loving has one thing in common.

I love everything about this gorgeous outdoor space, especially the tile wall and those indigo batik pillows.  You can have your own made using this fabric.

Lovers of the Ballard Designs catalog – you will NOT want to miss this article on Ballard Founder, Helen Ballard Weeks and it’s tour of the to-die-for Atlanta home she recently sold.

Project_San_Clemente_Blackband_Design_5-2

Maybe it’s my excitement about getting on the beach in a couple weeks, but lately I have been drawn to water and beach inspired art like this gorgeous piece featured in a stunning San Clemente home.  There is something so soothing about it. Interestingly, you can find some pretty cool but smaller versions at Urban Outfitters.

I love the color lavender – but it’s so rarely used in interior design. Like pink it has the connotation of being too girly. This article has some great examples of more sophisticated uses of the color in design. (Plus I just love the two cats in this picture.)

Had a fabulous time at the Grand Opening Party for the new Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams Store in Oakbrook last night with my favorite girls! More details next week, but we may have found our new summer cocktail!

Between You and Me …

June 23, 2015

I’m always looking for different kinds of “art” for my home.  I love finding new artists on Etsy, searching for vintage sketches and watercolors, taking favorite scenic photographs from vacations and blowing them up big. And maybe it’s my background as a copywriter in advertising, but I also love signs with good “copy” and typography.

Enter “Between You and Me” – a fun little Etsy shop specializing in handmade wood signs with a variety of sayings, quotes, songs, and biblical verses. Since my birthday was at the end of May, I added a couple of their signs to my birthday wishlist. And look what I unwrapped! (Thanks, honey!)

I love this verse from Ralph Waldo Emerson as a sweet way to say grace before a meal.

They are really solid and well made, with kind of a chippy, vintage look.  Here are a few of my other favorites from their shop …

Which ones inspires you?

What’s on your ideal bookshelf?

December 6, 2012

Looking for a unique gift idea?  What about giving that hard-to-buy-for someone their ideal bookshelf?

I can sense your brow is furrowing.

What?

Wouldn’t that be … expensive? … heavy? … hard to wrap?

Not this kind.

I’m talking about these fun prints by artist Jane Mount which you can find on her website Ideal Bookshelf.

Do you know someone who loves to Travel?

Fashion?

Cooking?

A Jane Austen buff?

Harry Potter fanatic?

What about this collection of children’s books for a nursery or playroom?

There are many different collections, including the ideal bookshelves of many “creative thinkers” in all fields, such as Alice Walters and David Sedaris.

Just pop it in a frame and you’ve got a great, personal gift.

How about this one for your pal who moved here from NYC?

Many of these prints are also available for a limited time on the site 20X200.

Perhaps you don’t see your ideal bookshelf among the many options. That’s okay too. You can order a custom print where you choose all of the books to be included. Or purchase a gift card for your recipient to do the same. How fun is that?

It kind of gets you thinking … what would be on your ideal bookshelf?  And more interestingly, what does that say about you?

What’s Blooming … On Your Walls?

May 16, 2012

I love that everything in my yard is so lush and blooming already … and it’s not even Memorial Day! My favorite florist is carrying the most gorgeous blooms … even the flowers at the grocery store are in full abundance.

Maybe that’s why I’m loving the work of artist Lulie Wallace lately …

Based out of Charleston, SC, her work was recently featured on the cover of the latest issue of House of Fifty …
… as well as a feature article inside.
Some of her paintings were also featured on One Kings Lane as part of it’s Domino Magazine: Get the Look sale.
I think her pieces are so lovely and would add a wonderful punch of color to the right wall or room, especially a room where most of the other pieces are fairly neutral. These are not your Grandmother’s Still Life’s.
New paintings are added to her site weekly and she also does commissions.  She works with many brides … re-interpreting their bridal bouquet on canvas. How wonderful is that?

Ok … so they are a tad more pricey than a bouquet of real flowers … but just think … these will last FOREVER!

(Just before she flies out to LA for the Emmys!) what a wonderful event at the Monogram Design Studio learning Jean’s tips and tricks for setting a beautiful holiday table. (It doesn’t have to be perfect or match … lean into nostalgia with vintage pieces and found treasures from travels and take advantage of faux greens … just to name a few!) Plus the talented chefs at Monogram served up the most delicious snacks using their amazing Five-in-One Wall Oven. I’m excited to set my table for Christmas Eve this year and I may just be using Jean’s idea of tying velvet ribbons to vintage coupe glasses. Oh and the dried orange garland! What are your favorite things to add to your Holiday table?

Do you know the story of how Crate & Barrel began? Do you know the story of how Crate & Barrel began? Newlyweds Gordon and Carol Segal discovered simple white European dinnerware on their honeymoon and decided their hometown friends needed it too. They opened the first Crate & Barrel in Chicago in 1962. So honored to be invited to their 60th Anniversary celebration last night. And let me just say, Crate & Barrel sure knows how to set a table … for 60! Every detail of this evening was beautifully styled in that special C&B way that has made them a favorite place to shop for so many for so long. It was wonderful to hear Gordon speak and the last picture is the lovely cozy view I had for dinner. Quintessential Crate & Barrel. @crateandbarrel #60thanniversarycelebration
