Designer Finds: Overstock

June 21, 2011

Don’t you love when a high-end designer creates an “affordable” line of products? Target is great at snagging big names to develop fun clothing and home decor for their stores.

Apparently, Overstock is in on the game too. Thom Filicia has a great collection of rugs on Overstock right now at unbelievable prices and they are selling out fast.  Below are some of my favorites. Each come in a variety of sizes and colorways.

Handmade Tioga Ink Blue Rug

Handmade Chatam Lawn Green Rug

Handmade Danforth Indoor/ Outdoor Indian Red Rug

Handmade Ackerman Indoor/ Outdoor Sunflower Rug

Although some of them are considered indoor/outdoor, I think they would still be great in a more casual space … especially with little ones underfoot.  A breakfast room, entry hall, playroom, sun porch … just the right punch of color, texture or pattern to transform a room. What do you think?

Masculine Finds for Father’s Day

June 17, 2011

Okay. Let’s face it.  There are things belonging to some (most?) husbands that we either:

a) wish we could hide when people come over
b) DO hide when people come over
c) have relegated to a special room (cough, cough, basement) where most people won’t see them

But in the spirit of Father’s Day, I’ve decided to throw all the great Dads out there a bone and feature some masculine finds that could actually coexist with all of the other lovely items in your home that … ahem, you have chosen.

Leather Wingback chairs
Handpainted Linen Welsh Dragon Pillow

Vintage Salvage Metal Window Grill

Carved Horn Bowl

Vintage Code Flag Art
Leather Butterfly Chair

Deer Antlers

Pool Ball Candle Holder
Vintage Apothecary Bottles
If you have a “man-cave” in your house that you are actually proud of, please send pictures. I will post the best ones.  In the meantime, have a wonderful Father’s Day weekend!

Exotic Elegance

June 15, 2011

Have you heard of John Robshaw?

I think his textiles are utterly swoon worthy …

His bedding, pillows, and table linens are a mesmerizing mix of bold patterns and exotic colors that conjure up images of dreamy faraway locales.
Indeed, he uses traditional block printing, dying and weaving techniques with the brilliant colors and patterns, even wildlife, of Central and Southeast Asia to inspire his collections.

I always know a room with John Robshaw textiles when I see one.

So I was excited when I walked into World Market the other day and saw their new line of outdoor textiles. To me, they are very John Robshaw-esque.
Since we are in need of a new umbrella for our patio, I was especially drawn to this …
Summer Goddess 9 ft. Umbrella

It kinda reminds of this fabric from John’s collection … (and you know how I love yellow and gray together.)

I’d like to pick up a couple of these to go with … very block-print inspired:

Bohemian Summer Floor Cushion

And, what do you know, I’d get some pillows too … (I know, shocking).  We don’t even have the “lounge”/seating area furniture for our patio yet … but I could hold on to these until next summer.

Bohemian Summer Toss Pillow

But we did just get a new outdoor dining table and chairs … and this even has a whole for the umbrella! (I’ve always wanted to do a runner outside for parties, but could never figure out how to work around that umbrella pole.)

Summer Breeze Table Runner

There are lots more styles and colors to choose from … even elephants, one of John Robshaw’s favorites …

World Market Elephant Lumbar Pillow

John Robshaw Two Elephants Handpainted Pillow

John Robshaw Indian Elephant Pillow

Be sure to check out both places if you’re looking to add some worldly glam to your indoor and outdoor spaces.

Let the sun shine …

June 13, 2011

Well, this upcoming week is our first “official” week of summer with the boys finally done with school.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like a good week for the pool.  We are keeping our fingers crossed for some sun at the very least even if it’s not all that warm.

Speaking of sun … (nice segue way, eh?) … I have always been a fan of  sunburst mirrors. There are so many pretty ones. I just recently noticed a new one from Ballard Designs that I hadn’t seen before.

Then, just today I spotted this DIY mirror on a blog called Centsational Girl.
Guess what it’s made out of?
Paint stir sticks! Don’t you just love it?
Sure it’s not quite the same as the Ballard one … but compare the cost: $10 vs. $349!
Check out the whole tutorial on how to make one here.
Wishing everyone some sunshine this week!

(Just before she flies out to LA for the Emmys!) what a wonderful event at the Monogram Design Studio learning Jean’s tips and tricks for setting a beautiful holiday table. (It doesn’t have to be perfect or match … lean into nostalgia with vintage pieces and found treasures from travels and take advantage of faux greens … just to name a few!) Plus the talented chefs at Monogram served up the most delicious snacks using their amazing Five-in-One Wall Oven. I’m excited to set my table for Christmas Eve this year and I may just be using Jean’s idea of tying velvet ribbons to vintage coupe glasses. Oh and the dried orange garland! What are your favorite things to add to your Holiday table?

Do you know the story of how Crate & Barrel began? Do you know the story of how Crate & Barrel began? Newlyweds Gordon and Carol Segal discovered simple white European dinnerware on their honeymoon and decided their hometown friends needed it too. They opened the first Crate & Barrel in Chicago in 1962. So honored to be invited to their 60th Anniversary celebration last night. And let me just say, Crate & Barrel sure knows how to set a table … for 60! Every detail of this evening was beautifully styled in that special C&B way that has made them a favorite place to shop for so many for so long. It was wonderful to hear Gordon speak and the last picture is the lovely cozy view I had for dinner. Quintessential Crate & Barrel. @crateandbarrel #60thanniversarycelebration
