Complete Randomness

September 16, 2011

So sorry for the lack of posts this week. Now that school and fall are both in full swing, it has been a busy week of school activities and new client projects. So please excuse the complete randomness of this post but I thought I’d just share a few things a came across this week that made me swoon.

Grand Wingback Chair
giant typewriter keys.

Taken with my iphone:
Calvin Klein rug
A pretty new collection at Serena and Lily …

table linens
Love the simplicity of this line drawing. Feels like something you’d find at a great flea market or estate sale …
Jockeys
Oooh … how about the color scheme and wallpaper on the cover of House Beautiful that came in my mailbox …
Spotted this on Pinterest …
At this time of year, we all tend to take on too much … I often need to remind myself that sometimes it’s all right to keep things simple.
Hope everyone has a wonderful (and simple!) weekend!

Don’t be afraid to go bold …

September 13, 2011

Have you heard of the online magazine Lonny?
On Saturday the September/October 2011 issue went live and it is just a smorgasbord of visual delights! With lots of great ideas and incredible homes designed by the likes of Celerie Kimble and Eddie Ross, just to name a few, it is fun to curl up on the sofa with your iPad and and flip through it’s colorful pages.  What’s so cool is that oftentimes, if you see something you like, you can click directly through to the website where you might purchase it, or at least get more information.
What I loved about this issue is that these designers and homeowners weren’t afraid to go BIG and go BOLD. It makes each space unique,  fun … a little quirky.  You kind of feel like you can guess the personality of these people, just by looking into their homes …
Take a peek.
Using bold color, bold wallpaper AND a bold chandelier …
Who says you can’t cover your walls in animal print and butterflies?

Or put a peacock in your dining room …

More butterflies that cover the wall …

Quirky, right?
Bikini art and medieval busts … who knew they went together?

Elephants, zebras and huge lamps, oh my!
Why not mix some Jaws in with your vases and bowls?

Even bathrooms can be bold …

Are you on the fence about doing something bold in your own home?  If it makes you smile, warms you heart or says something about you, then go for it!

Home Office Daydreaming …

September 9, 2011

As I type this, I am sitting in my dining room. The dining room has temporarily become our office as we had to clear everything out of our true office, just off the kitchen, in preparation for the day that someone comes to cut open the ceiling and assess/fix the water damage done when the tree fell on our roof … last June!

Boo-hoo.

Anyway, now that it’s all cleared out, I have been daydreaming about what I’d like the room to eventually look like.  I’ve saved lots of inspiration photos that I thought I’d share with you here …

First step will be to create built-in desks and cabinetry …

This soft gray makes me swoon.

A new addiction … Spoonflower Fabrics

September 6, 2011

I have a new addiction and it’s called Spoonflower Fabrics.

It’s an amazing site where you can actually design and print your own fabrics! Hmmm … I would love to try this out if I ever had a spare minute to sit down and sketch some ideas. But in the meantime, there are many other fabulous independent designers who have uploaded their designs to share.

There are literally so many wonderful prints, it has got me wanting to make all new pillows, window treatments, and bedding in every room of my house. (Dan, if you’re reading, take a deep breath … I’m only kidding … kind of.) I could not possibly even come close to featuring all of my favorites here, but I’ll give you a small sampling.

My favorite designer is Holli Zollinger.

I love that any of the prints can be done on various kinds of fabrics … cotton, cotton sateen, knit, twill, linen cotton canvas, silk crepe de chine, cotton voile or cotton silk. And the prices range from $18/yard to $38 which I think is a great deal.

What do you think? Time for a Spoonflower fix?

(Just before she flies out to LA for the Emmys!) what a wonderful event at the Monogram Design Studio learning Jean’s tips and tricks for setting a beautiful holiday table. (It doesn’t have to be perfect or match … lean into nostalgia with vintage pieces and found treasures from travels and take advantage of faux greens … just to name a few!) Plus the talented chefs at Monogram served up the most delicious snacks using their amazing Five-in-One Wall Oven. I’m excited to set my table for Christmas Eve this year and I may just be using Jean’s idea of tying velvet ribbons to vintage coupe glasses. Oh and the dried orange garland! What are your favorite things to add to your Holiday table?

Do you know the story of how Crate & Barrel began? Do you know the story of how Crate & Barrel began? Newlyweds Gordon and Carol Segal discovered simple white European dinnerware on their honeymoon and decided their hometown friends needed it too. They opened the first Crate & Barrel in Chicago in 1962. So honored to be invited to their 60th Anniversary celebration last night. And let me just say, Crate & Barrel sure knows how to set a table … for 60! Every detail of this evening was beautifully styled in that special C&B way that has made them a favorite place to shop for so many for so long. It was wonderful to hear Gordon speak and the last picture is the lovely cozy view I had for dinner. Quintessential Crate & Barrel. @crateandbarrel #60thanniversarycelebration
