Thanksgiving Inspiration

November 18, 2011

So, after today, the kids are off school for the next week and I’m thinking I’ll take the week off from blogging too.  As we head into the weekend, I thought I’d leave you with some pretty ideas for setting your Thanksgiving table that I found on Pinterest.  I do not have a table to set myself, as we will be spending the holiday at my sister’s house … but if you are making the big bird this year, perhaps you could use some of these ideas …

I love the idea of this Thankful Tree. Everyone gets to write down the things they are thankful for and hang them on the tree.  I think kids would love it, and even as adults, sometimes we need to stop and take a moment to think about the blessings in our lives.

A cute idea for place settings. And I love elevating pumpkins on a cake stand.

Isn’t this centerpiece gorgeous? Instead of a vase, use a pumpkin!

This is one is so simple but elegant. Walnuts, acorns, chestnuts … they give this centerpiece such a natural, organic feel.

I absolutely love the table setting below.  Who says you can’t add in a little blue for Thanksgiving I think it looks beautiful paired with the traditional fall colors of the season.

Again, why not use small gourds instead of bowls?

A little somethin’ in addition to your pumpkin pie … wouldn’t the kids gobble (no pun intended!) these up!

And speaking of kids, how cute is this “Kid’s Table?”

A simple idea for a window seat …

November 15, 2011

Ok, so both boys have school projects due this week that involve finding and printing out old photos … and it has become quite a time consuming project for mom!  Especially when I keep stopping to reminisce!
Anyway, I did come across this easy idea on Pinterest for creating a window seat …

What a great use of otherwise unused space under the window. Wouldn’t this be cute in a kid’s room?  So simple … it’s just an Ikea Expedit bookshelf turned on its side. I would add a cushion on top to make it a little more comfy.
Have a good week!

My little piece of Madeline …

November 11, 2011

I have long been a fan of Madeline Weinrib.  A New York based painter and textile designer, she has created a collection of carpets, pillows, fabric and vintage pieces that have become a staple in the design world, with designs clearly inspired by her travels around the globe.

She is the great granddaughter of the founder of ABC Carpet & Home and opened her own Atelier on the 6th floor of ABC, offering one of kind vintage pieces, and using her textiles in unexpected ways.  Her style is relaxed and sophisticated with worldly elegance, but to purchase anything Madeline Weinrib will set you back quite a few clams.

That’s why I was thrilled to see such a wide assortment of her textiles and pillows on One Kings Lane back in September … and the prices were IN. CRED. IB. LE. I was able to snag 5 yards of this beautiful fabric from her Organic Blockprint line.

I waited in anticipation for it to come in the mail (things from One Kings Lane always take awhile). Fast-forward 6 weeks and add in one talented woman named Julie … and these beauties were delivered today …

and hung in my living room!

Not only do they make me swoon … but there is still enough fabric leftover to make something else!
Pillows?

Gorgeous New Textile Line

November 8, 2011

One of my favorite designers, Lauren Leiss of Pure Style Home just launched her own textile line and her online shop went live Monday morning.

All of her fabrics make me swoon, but here are a few of my favorites.

She has designed them intentionally to be washed for a softer, more time-worn look, which I love.
The photography is gorgeous as well.
I also love that she used her adorable son in the photo shoot …
Each fabric began from her own drawings and doodlings and has a little story behind it about why she created it. One of them even has a secret little inscription to find in the pattern. It says “live your life.”   I like that …
She is currently doing a giveaway of 2 free yards of fabric of your choice.  All you have to do is go to her shop, pick out your favorite pattern and then leave a comment about it on her blog.  She’ll randomly draw two winners on Friday.
Of course, I have already signed up!
P.S. To my sister Lori … if you are reading this, Happy Birthday!

(Just before she flies out to LA for the Emmys!) what a wonderful event at the Monogram Design Studio learning Jean’s tips and tricks for setting a beautiful holiday table. (It doesn’t have to be perfect or match … lean into nostalgia with vintage pieces and found treasures from travels and take advantage of faux greens … just to name a few!) Plus the talented chefs at Monogram served up the most delicious snacks using their amazing Five-in-One Wall Oven. I’m excited to set my table for Christmas Eve this year and I may just be using Jean’s idea of tying velvet ribbons to vintage coupe glasses. Oh and the dried orange garland! What are your favorite things to add to your Holiday table?

Do you know the story of how Crate & Barrel began? Do you know the story of how Crate & Barrel began? Newlyweds Gordon and Carol Segal discovered simple white European dinnerware on their honeymoon and decided their hometown friends needed it too. They opened the first Crate & Barrel in Chicago in 1962. So honored to be invited to their 60th Anniversary celebration last night. And let me just say, Crate & Barrel sure knows how to set a table … for 60! Every detail of this evening was beautifully styled in that special C&B way that has made them a favorite place to shop for so many for so long. It was wonderful to hear Gordon speak and the last picture is the lovely cozy view I had for dinner. Quintessential Crate & Barrel. @crateandbarrel #60thanniversarycelebration
