To Market, to Market

May 29, 2013

So, one of the things I most anticipate about Memorial Day Weekend is always the first Randolph Street Market Festival of the season (it runs the last weekend of each month, May through October).  After bribing the boys with a little city brunch (triple chocolate pancakes anyone?) on Sunday morning … we headed over to Randolph Street. It is just such a fun treasure hunt and you never know what you’ll find.

As usual, I snapped some pictures of a few things that caught my attention.  Although, considering the fact that we spent the previous day (and last several weeks) cleaning out our house for our upcoming garage sale, I was still kind of riding the wave of less-is-more and didn’t make many purchases.

But even the boys are intrigued by the assortment of stuff at certain booths …

Kyle kind of liked this vintage desk, chair AND lamp …

And Braden was kind of curious about the cowhide rugs.

Spelling out your name in these jumbo letters would make for a groovy room or playroom …

I thought this rustic bench would be pretty tucked away in a lushly landscaped yard.

I love how they filled these black metal lockers with white plates … would be awesome along a dining room or kitchen wall to add a little industrial edge.

I swooned over this navy campaign-style chest. (Sadly, so did someone else … it had a SOLD sign on it.)

I’m always drawn to pieces like this with a million little drawers … it’s just an organizational dream … think of all the little things you could keep in here … and LABEL it all too …

This vendor is there every time … and I always find myself wishing I had one of his mirrors. I love the mixture of green, gray and reclaimed wood on this one.

So in another life, when I have a cool urban loft in the city, I am so getting this island for my kitchen.

A table can be made from a manhole cover … who knew?

I almost snapped up a few of these galvanized pots … I think they look so pretty filled with flowers outside …

… and Pottery Barn charges a pretty penny for them.

Love these vintage lockers … great for a mudroom or kids’ room.

With some new knobs, these would be really sweet flanking the bed in a young girl’s room. I would design the whole room around that mint color.

Imagine finding this on the hood of a van!

It reminded me of the spectacular sea urchin from Holly Hunt we saw hanging on the wall of the dining room in the Merchandise Dream Home last year.

I learned today that a friend who was also at the Market that day snatched up a pink one for her daughter’s room … how fun is that?  (And by the way, I guess they are called Juju hats … it is an African headdress.)

Aaahhh … to have a girl’s room to decorate. (Yes, I would go crazy.)  But I did find something super cool for a boy’s room …

Wouldn’t it be great on a big white wall … I’m thinking of a gold, charcoal gray and white color scheme here …

And last but not least … on the way out I saw this cute little chair … kinda perfect as is … but you could also have fun with it by spray painting it a bright color and changing out the fabric.

Finally, we rounded out the long weekend with an indoor BBQ at my parent’s house … (with a little early birthday celebration for me …)

Yep, that cake was delish!

Pinch me - I was with Jean Stoffer last night! (Ju Pinch me - I was with Jean Stoffer last night! (Just before she flies out to LA for the Emmys!) what a wonderful event at the Monogram Design Studio learning Jean’s tips and tricks for setting a beautiful holiday table. (It doesn’t have to be perfect or match … lean into nostalgia with vintage pieces and found treasures from travels and take advantage of faux greens … just to name a few!) Plus the talented chefs at Monogram served up the most delicious snacks using their amazing Five-in-One Wall Oven. I’m excited to set my table for Christmas Eve this year and I may just be using Jean’s idea of tying velvet ribbons to vintage coupe glasses. Oh and the dried orange garland! What are your favorite things to add to your Holiday table?

Do you know the story of how Crate & Barrel began? Do you know the story of how Crate & Barrel began? Newlyweds Gordon and Carol Segal discovered simple white European dinnerware on their honeymoon and decided their hometown friends needed it too. They opened the first Crate & Barrel in Chicago in 1962. So honored to be invited to their 60th Anniversary celebration last night. And let me just say, Crate & Barrel sure knows how to set a table … for 60! Every detail of this evening was beautifully styled in that special C&B way that has made them a favorite place to shop for so many for so long. It was wonderful to hear Gordon speak and the last picture is the lovely cozy view I had for dinner. Quintessential Crate & Barrel. @crateandbarrel #60thanniversarycelebration
