Client Files: Living Room Reveal

August 13, 2012

I’m excited to reveal pictures of one of my favorite projects I’ve been working on … the living room of a wonderful young family.

Because everyone loves a good before and after photo, I’ll start with that.

Before

After
As you can see from the before picture … we pretty much started with a blank slate. The room held some old furniture and toys …
My client wasn’t sure if she should reupholster the red chairs or get something new.  While I love the idea of reupholstering furniture to give it a new life, in this case I convinced her that we needed chairs with more height to fill that wonderful space in front of the window.
What I loved about my client is that she wasn’t timid about going with all of the pattern I threw at her: stripes, medallions, florals, geometrics.
Because this is the first room people see upon entering their home, I wanted to do something dramatic. The result is an interesting and dynamic space that at the same time feels serene and elegant.
Here are some more shots …
I love this collection of colorful Parisian street scene photographs.

We needed a very thin console for this wall, but were able to create lots of visual interest with a mirror and some simple accessories.

The custom designed striped curtains provide the perfect backdrop to this sitting area.

Although we didn’t keep the old chairs, I did suggest that with a few coats of paint, this desk armoire could still be perfect in this corner.
My client and her dad did a beautiful job painting it  …
 What do you think?
I hope my client and her family will continue to enjoy this cheery spot in their home.

Great living room design- love the use of all the fabrics and all the patterns…in fact, I've used that blue/green print on the sofa pillows myself on a project!

(Just before she flies out to LA for the Emmys!) what a wonderful event at the Monogram Design Studio learning Jean’s tips and tricks for setting a beautiful holiday table. (It doesn’t have to be perfect or match … lean into nostalgia with vintage pieces and found treasures from travels and take advantage of faux greens … just to name a few!) Plus the talented chefs at Monogram served up the most delicious snacks using their amazing Five-in-One Wall Oven. I’m excited to set my table for Christmas Eve this year and I may just be using Jean’s idea of tying velvet ribbons to vintage coupe glasses. Oh and the dried orange garland! What are your favorite things to add to your Holiday table?

Do you know the story of how Crate & Barrel began? Do you know the story of how Crate & Barrel began? Newlyweds Gordon and Carol Segal discovered simple white European dinnerware on their honeymoon and decided their hometown friends needed it too. They opened the first Crate & Barrel in Chicago in 1962. So honored to be invited to their 60th Anniversary celebration last night. And let me just say, Crate & Barrel sure knows how to set a table … for 60! Every detail of this evening was beautifully styled in that special C&B way that has made them a favorite place to shop for so many for so long. It was wonderful to hear Gordon speak and the last picture is the lovely cozy view I had for dinner. Quintessential Crate & Barrel. @crateandbarrel #60thanniversarycelebration
